Customizing Objects and Tools
Vine provides a great number of customization capabilities making it possible to fine-tune the appearance and functionality of almost every object and tool. Some of these capabilities are accessible only for the administrator, such as, setting resource types, moving folders to the top level, creating event and project phases, modifying connection types, etc. Others, such as modifying edit and display forms, adding Sales Tools and metrics to the Today page, changing synchronization options can be only done by the Vine support personnel.
Many useful customization capabilities are also available for a regular Vine user. You, as a Vine user, are encouraged to customize the Vine environment as you need it. For example:
You can customize the Calendar view in a variety of ways: which days to show, whose events to show, what day time to show and so on.
You can customize and save table layouts to match your specific needs.
You can design your personal workspace map and add it to the Favorites pane. Your workspace map can include links to your most important objects. For example, the objects you are working with now.
Some of your customizations, such as Calendar settings, are stored in the local database and will be lost when you recreate your local database.
Working with Custom Objects
Vine supports the use of objects created for your company's specific needs and objectives.
A custom object has a view fine-tuned to work with its data. In all other respects, a custom object is a regular Vine object and has very similar functionality:
A custom object has an associated icon. This icon is added to the Toolbar and to the object view. To create a new object you need to click the icon on the Toolbar.
A custom object has the view that consists of several panes. One pane contains basic information about the object and the other panes list connected objects.
A custom object's data can be modified in its edit form.
A custom object can be linked to other objects.
A custom object can be searched for by using the Find and Extended Search tools.
The administrator sets up the connection types and user groups for a custom object type.
