Phase 2: Company Information
The Company field on a Person edit form is a link field, which is a field that contains the name of a connected object – a Company object, in this case. The link field works in the following way:
When you enter the name of a company into the field, or just the first few characters of the company name, a dialogue is displayed asking the user to choose one company from the list of those whose names begin with the character combination entered. After the user has made a choice and finished creating the Person object, a connection between the Company object and the Person object is established.
If Vine finds no companies with names beginning with the given character combination, a dialogue is displayed allowing the user to create a new Company object. After creating the new Company, a connection to the Person object is also established.
In Vine, each company has two names: the official name and use name.
Company’s official name:
The official name should be written as the target company writes the name
Contains company’s legal form abbreviations (Ltd, Ab, Oy, Oyj etc.)
The official name used for printouts, business letters and mailings
In short, the company’s official name indicates how the company wants its name to be. The user can verify the official name for example from company’s web page.
Company’s use name:
The use name is a combination of the official name, location and other possible information
Does not contain abbreviations expressing the company form (Ltd. Ab, Oy, Oyj. etc.)
It is part of the search criteria in Vine. Company’s use name is also used in reports, folders and other listings.
In short, the company’s use name is written in the same format as the Vine users want it.
Often the official name and the use name are almost identical for companies with a single location. However, special attention must be taken for companies with multiple locations. Vine separates the different locations of multi-location company with different use names for different locations.
